Safari Booking Procedure

The online Sasan Gir National Park Safari Booking is managed by the state forest department deployed at Gir. The bookings are made considering the rules and regulations of India’s forest department. The entry permits for jeep safari are available online. However, it is always advisable to get the permit well in advance to avoid rush or unavailability. The following information is necessary during the time of booking:

1. The full name, age, and sex (as per your ID proof) of every visitor are mandatory.
2. Your exact Safari Date and Shift Timing (Early Morning/ Morning/ Afternoon).
3. Every traveler’s Identity Card Number (Voter Id, Aadhar Card, Pan Card, Driving license, etc.).
4. Pay the full Entry Permit Fee beforehand.

Safari Timing and Prices

For Sasan Gir Safari booking, the entry fee for Indian residents is Rs.800-1000 for up to 6 persons. The extra child fee is Rs. 100 usually and Rs. 125 for festivals/Saturday/Sunday. For NRIs, the entry fee for 6 people on normal days is Rs. 5600-7000. The extra child fee is Rs. 1400 usually and Rs. 1750 for festivals/Saturday/Sunday.

The other charges include the jeep rates which is Rs.1700 per jeep. Hiring a professional camera will cost you a further Rs.200 for Indians and Rs. 1400 for foreigners. Additionally hiring a guide will cost you another Rs.400-700.

To have an unforgettable experience, visit Gir National Park from December to March. The forest opens at 6:45 AM and closes at 9:45 AM. The safari functions from 8:30 AM – 11:30 AM. The forest opens from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm.

Safari Zones

Gir Jungle Trail

The best way to explore Gir National Park is through an open Jeep Safari ride. The Gir Jungle Trail Safari is one of the zones which is operated by the forest department deployed at Sasan Gir in three shifts. The jeep operates in two shifts which are in the morning and evening respectively. The morning jeep safari timing is from 06:45 AM to 09:45 AM and 08:30 AM to 11:30 Am and the evening slot is from 03:00 to 06:00 PM. You will find Asiatic lions, leopards, and various other wild species, rich flora, and fauna in this region.

Interpretation Zone

To reduce human interference in the main area, an interpretation zone is available at Devalia. Spread over 412 hectares of the fenced area, it represents Gir National Park in a different light. It is inclusive of all flora and fauna and the major wildlife present in the main sanctuary area. This was done to provide tourists with an opportunity to witness wildlife in its natural habitat. This interpretation zone has sambars, chinkaras, wild boars, blue bulls, and spotted deer. A safari in this zone is a treat for wildlife enthusiasts.

Other than Africa, Gir National Park is the only place in the world that houses an Asiatic lion. These majestic lions of Gir measuring 2.75 meters have big tail tassels, bushy elbow tufts, and distinctive belly folds. Gir houses around other 40 mammal species and 425 bird species. The other exquisite mammals include Asiatic wild ass, hyenas, foxes, pygmy woodpeckers, brown fish owls, black bucks, etc. The flora is also quite diverse at Gir National Park.
